In celebration of its Tokyo Ginza flagship store's two-decade milestone, Leica Camera Japan Co., Ltd. is introducing a special release. This commemorative occasion is marked by the launch of a limited-edition Leica M-A Hammertone analog rangefinder camera, with only 100 units produced. These exclusive cameras will be available for purchase starting April 25th, solely at the prestigious Ginza boutique.
The newly unveiled Leica M-A Hammertone camera boasts a striking design, featuring a medium-gray, textured hammer tone metallic finish elegantly complemented by black leather. This aesthetic creates a visually captivating and industrial-inspired appearance. This isn't the first instance of Leica releasing a 'Hammertone' edition for a significant event at its Ginza outlet; a similar Leica M9 Hammertone was issued for the store's fifth anniversary in 2011, also limited to 100 pieces. Furthermore, in 2016, Leica created an M-A Edition Hammertone to celebrate its Vienna store's 25th anniversary, a set that included a matching refurbished Leica Meter MR-4 and a special Noctilux-M 0.95/50mm ASPH. lens, with one such camera selling for a remarkable 132,000 euros in 2021.
While the new Ginza anniversary edition, limited to 100 units and without accompanying accessories, may not immediately command the same auction values as its predecessors, it is expected to be highly sought after by collectors. Its distinct '20 Jahre' (20 Years) engraving on the front and a specially engraved body cap are sure to enhance its appeal among dedicated Leica enthusiasts. Complementing the camera release, the Leica Gallery Tokyo is hosting a special exhibition, 'Timeless Vision,' from April 26th to July 19th. This exhibition will showcase 35 works by 12 renowned photographers who have previously exhibited at the gallery, adding another layer to the anniversary celebrations.
